The Learn to Skate – North Iowa program promotes recreational skating, figure skating, and hockey power in the North Iowa community by providing safe, fun, & high-quality group instruction per the Learn to Skate USA Curriculum. This program is run by the North Iowa Figure Skating Club, its coaches & instructors, and volunteers.

During the 2025-2026 season, we will offer (4) 6-week sessions. Skaters may choose to participate in one, two, three, or all sessions! All classes take place on Sunday afternoons between 4:00 – 6:00 PM, schedule is based on current registration, coaching availability, and arena schedule. The Mason City Arena is located at 111 S Washington Ave, Mason City.

Private lessons are open only to club members. Your lesson will be cancelled if you do not have a paid club membership.
Private lesson coaching is $20/30-minute lesson. Payment must be made directly to the coach prior to or the day of the lesson. Coaches are able to accept Venmo & exact cash.
Club members are responsible for their own ice time. Your ice contract must include the ice day/time that your private lesson is taking place on. If not, you must pay walk on ice rate of $20/day
We ask that club members only book one lesson per day to allow for everyone to have an opportunity to book with their coach. If you’d like additional lessons on the same day, a second lesson may be booked if there is 24hrs or less until the lesson time.
Lessons that are cancelled within 24hrs of the appointment time will be subject to the lesson fee, unless they are filled by another skater. Special circumstances/emergencies can be discussed privately with your coach.
Skaters who are late for the lesson will pay for the entire lesson, but the lesson will end on time out of respect for other skaters. If the coach is late, she will adjust the price or the time to be fair to all skaters.
Skaters may take lessons from any coach. All of the NIFSC coaches are working together as a team. It is highly suggested that each skater purchase the skater log book in order to have a cohesive coaching environment and serve the best interest of the skater. *we do still ask that you schedule one lesson per week (Sun-Sat) in advance and check back the day or two prior to schedule additional lessons if there are still openings.
