About

In 1983, a group of interested parents organized the North Iowa Figure Skating Club (NIFSC) in the newly constructed arena on the North Iowa Fairgrounds (now the North Iowa Events Center). In the winter of 2019-2020, all ice sports moved to the newly constructed arena in downtown Mason City. The Club’s objectives were designed to offer ice skating instruction to North Iowans of all ages. The NIFSC is managed by a board of volunteer directors and is sanctioned by the USFS (United States Figure Skating Association) and Learn to Skate USA (LTS USA).

Learn to Skate – North Iowa: This Learn to Skate program is run by the North Iowa Figure Skating Club, its coaches & instructors, and volunteers. This program promotes recreational skating, figure skating, and hockey power in the North Iowa Community by providing safe, fun, & high-quality group instructions in accordance with the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.

The LTS Program will offer the levels, including Little Explorers, Snowplow Sam 1-3, Basic 1-6, FreeSkate 1-6, Adult 1-6, & Synchro 1-4. From time to time, and as the schedule allows, we may offer Hockey 1-4 & Hockey Power. In the 2025-2026 Season, we will offer four (4) six-week sessions. Each session, registered participants will receive a weekly 30-minute lesson with one of our LTS Certified Instructors. In addition to the lesson, our session fee will include skate rental (if needed), LTS USA membership, end-of-session evaluation form, certificate & patches, as well as a lot of FUN! For more information on our Learn to Skate Program, check out our Learn to Skate page!

Regular Club Membership: The Learn to Skate program is the first step in the journey toward contract skating with NIFSC. While LTS is designed to teach foundational skills, this program prepares skaters for more advanced training. As skaters progress, they can transition into contract skating, where they have access to specialized coaching, focused practice sessions, and opportunities for competitive growth and to prepare for USFS testing. This seamless transition ensures that skaters of all levels have the support and resources they need to achieve their skating goals.

Skaters can opt to become a regular club member at nearly any point in their Learn to Skate skating journey. Many of our skaters become regular club members as soon as they pass Basic 4, although some may choose to join when they advance through the Freeskate LTS levels!
