Club Membership

NIFSC Membership

The North Iowa Figure Skating Club was founded in 1983 at the North Iowa Ice Arena. The purpose of the NIFSC is to promote and encourage the sport of figure skating according to the guidelines of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFS), and to cultivate a love of figure skating. This program is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, parent volunteers & its coaches.

NIFSC membership is intended to enhance the Learn to Skate programming we offer. The club program offers additional opportunities for open ice practice, optional private lessons, and extended classes for advanced skaters. Club membership is open to ALL skaters regardless of age or skill level although some membership class benefits will be restricted based on skill level. For billing purposes, during the 2024-2025 season, we will offer three sessions, Session 1 (Sept-Dec), Session 2 (Jan-March), & Session 3 (April/May). Skaters may join as a club member at any point throughout the season. All pricing is based on the session and will be billed monthly through the Dance Studio Pro app.

Membership Requirements

Fundraising Obligations:

Fundraising is crucial to keeping our fees affordable. As a nonprofit, our club depends on fundraisers of various types to supplement our membership & ice fees to keep our them as low as possible. In the 2024-2025 season, each NIFSC member must commit to participating in our item sales fundraisers. There will be four (4) item sales fundraisers throughout the season, and in total, each NIFSC member must sell 10 items. If a member wishes to opt-out of fundraising they may do so for $250 (if a member joins after January 1, the opt-out fee is reduced to $150).

The four (4) item sale fundraisers we will be offering are:

Poppin Popcorn – September 8th-29th

Calendar Raffle – October 1st-31th

Godfathers Coupons – December 2024

Kwik Star Car Wash Cards – late February/early March 2025

In addition to these item fundraisers, the Club raises money through holding public events, participating in restaurant fundraisers, our 5k/Skate-A-Thon, and ticket sales to our annual Winter & Spring Showcases. Occasionally we will host a special clinic.

Volunteer Obligations:

NIFSC is a non-profit club run by volunteers. There are no paid positions within the club outside of the Pro Coaching Staff. This means we need all hands on deck each year to keep this program running smoothly and provide fun activities for all of the skaters.

In the 2024/2025 season, each NIFSC Member & their family are asked to volunteer a minimum of 6 times throughout the season. This is above any other obligation, such as Board Members, Snychro/Performance Team, or other specific needs. For those who have club skaters who wish to be considered for feature spots in the Spring Showcase, volunteering is a requirement. Feature spots can include solos, duets, trios, other small groupings, opening/closing numbers, and other spotlight features in large groups. If you choose to not fulfill these volunteer requirements your skater will be eligible to skate in the Club’s large group number & any Learn to Skate group they qualify for (Synchro or by skill level) only. This is a per-skater requirement.

Requirement 1 – Cleaning the club locker room (2 times per season) (Adult/Skater Volunteer together)

Requirement 2 – Volunteer at the Club Hosted Competition (Adult Volunteer)

Requirement 3 – Donate two items from our Giving Tree

Requirement 4 – Choose Two Club Hosted Public Events (Adult/Skater Volunteer together)
